The proposal focuses on the rehabilitation/transformation of the building’s housing fractions, shop and mezzanine. The aim is that the intervention recovers and enhances the spatial flexibility of the “Pombalino” typology. To meet the contemporary demands of comfort and mobility, we introduced an elevator near the stairway enclosure in a central area of the building that enables to safeguard the stairway.
As the building sits on a corner and has 2 fronts to the street (Douradores and Santa Justa), and to keep maintaining the original “Pombalino” structure we propose the creation of three apartments on each floor (left | front | right), most of them with a T1 typology.
Each apartment includes a water centre composed by sanitary installation and kitchen thus optimizing the introduction of pipes in the building, maximising the available space and taking advantage of the possibility of transversal ventilation in all apartments.
