LIVRE

LIVRE is a project developed and selected for the program “Arte em Campo” promoted by the Instituto das Artes under the theme EURO 2004 – the European Football Championship.
The project suggested the occupation of vacant city spaces during the EURO 2004 guided by the following principles:
-Continuous usage during the day and evening periods by the citizens thus enabling a different use of each space for the match and stay.
– LIVRE camps are installed with proportions defined by the specificity surface of available area; the limit does not determine the form but rather the proportion.
– The LIVRE camp is a surface constructed with synthetic materials.
– Transfer the football match from the exclusive space of stadiums and televisions to the inclusive and public space in the city.
“The relationship between absence of use, activity and sense of liberty, of expectation is fundamental to understand all the evocative potential that the terrain vague of cities have in perception during these past years. Empty as absence but also as a promise, as an encounter, as a space of a possible, of expectation.” Ignasi de Solà-Morales
