219 Pastor de Macedo

The apartment is located in a predominantly residential 12-storey building, constructed in the 1970s in the neighbourhood of Lumiar, in Lisbon. Since the building was constructed, the unit has been designated for commercial use and has continued to be used as an office to this day. In 2024, a change in the law allowed for the simplified conversion of units intended for commercial use into residential accommodation, making this change of use the starting point for the project and the renovation work.

The project sought to establish a material and spatial continuity with the era in which the building was constructed. A selection of materials was defined based on the building’s communal areas, which still featured the original finishes. The choice was made to use exotic tauari wood flooring, Estremoz marble in wet areas, semi-gloss white lacquered joinery and walls painted in matt white.

The layout of the house is structured around the dining area, the central space of the home which, in addition to its everyday function, acts as a distributive nucleus, articulating access to the different rooms of the house.
