MHM JERSEY

This project is the result of a home in Jersey Island with three plastic artists upon invitation by the Jersey Museum. The aim was to rethink the presence of the Portuguese community, the grand majority from Madeira that equals 10% of a population of 100.000 inhabitants.
The MHM-Jersey represents a reaction to the conditions to which the immigrant communities are subject, who live in minimum spaces with rigid laws and shared bathrooms in compartments of houses adapted to social housing units.
The MHM-Jersey proposes to optimize the areas by creating a Minimal Housing Module with approximately 16m2 (4mx4m). This space includes sanitary facilities, kitchen and storage areas. Whenever a MHM is no longer necessary the resident incorporates it in the walls/furniture thus leaving the area with its ultimate free space.
