Mesquita
Quinta da Mesquita, located in the municipality of Alcobaça, is an agricultural property that began commercial production at the end of the 19th century. At that time, several buildings were constructed to support the products storage, processing, and packaging. The main products use to be the wine, olive oil, fruit, and cereals, intended for both national and international markets.
In the 1980s, production was discontinued, and the buildings were abandoned, gradually falling into ruin. The first phase of the project aims to renovate the Main House, the Oven House, and the Threshing Floor.
The Main House originally had two floors with different uses. The first floor was for the owners’ residence, while the ground floor was used for storage. The project aims to transform the entire building into a residence, expanding it westward.
An entrance is created on the ground floor, with the atrium distributing access to various parts of the house. On the upper floor, the original straw ceiling is removed to enlarge the space, and the new living and open kitchen area connects to a large terrace with view for the landscape.
On the ground floor, a separate guest area and three bedrooms connected to the main house are created. The Oven House retains its original use, and the compartments now include a new greenhouse, kennel, and chicken coop.
The Threshing Floor is reinforced with a brick floor, allowing an informal and versatile use as an extension of the Main House.
