Located in the old Fontainhas neighborhood in Setúbal, the project aimed to transform two autonomous buildings into a single house. According to information obtained from archaeological research conducted on-site, the existing buildings underwent continuous transformations over time, resulting from successive additions and the merging of distinct plots.
The archaeological excavations revealed a significant amount of clay pottery remains in the subsoil, dating back to the medieval period, indicating the possibility that the site was a ceramic production center at that time.
In this continuous palimpsest, the project promoted new internal transformations without expansions, connecting previously disconnected spaces. To provide natural light and privacy, a courtyard was created inside the building that traverses all floors, becoming the central element of the house.
The entire ground floor is dedicated to social areas and the garage. On the upper floors are the bedrooms, and on the roof, a terrace was built offering panoramic views of the Sado estuary and the Tróia peninsula.
