ALGÉS – B + JI SCHOOL
The equipment was to become a school/garden or a garden inside a school for children from 3 to 10 years of age.
The project creates two distinct environments emphasizing its specific and inherent qualities.
On the outside, an urban environment connected to the street and on the inside a clear fluid and permeable space. An “outside” and an “inside” are established using the building as a transition space.
In order to get the maximum area of garden on the inside, the building grows towards the plot limits. Its relation to the surrounding urban environment is continuity, whether formal or volumetric. On the inside, as opposed to the strategy for the outside, the pavement slabs with pronounced brackets became curvilinear and with its organic geometry define the internal limit.
While the outside facades have regular openings, the inside facades are made essentially of continuous plate glass or covered exterior areas without frameworks. Thus the school’s central patio becomes an exceptional area.
